There is a great cosmopolitan atmosphere and a certain ambience about the town that give it the edge over the rest! Once upon a time a friend and myself came out of one of the clubs and were speaking to two australian girls on the beach, near the pier! One of them called my friend, bald event though it was patently obvious that he had copious amounts of hair and was not in fact bald! This ruined my conversation about the merits of the Australian lifestyle with her friend! As well as upsetting my fine companion??
But then??? something which will stay with me for the rest of my life occurred....... A lonely tramp emerged from the shadows and asked if my friend had any money, and was carrying a guitar. My friend in his inebriated state replied! Only if you can play and sing "stairway to heaven" As true as God!! there were a crowd of spectators numbering almost a hundred stood perfectly still, in utter disbelief until the tramp had finished! He walked off with thirty pounds in cash from us and tons from the rest of the crowd, which had just witnessed the finest rendition of that song we have ever seen! The whole crowd was cheering! Unbelievable..!! But it really did happen, and I was completely sober at the time as the designated taxi!
